Josiah & Amelia's Farmington Historic Plantation Wedding in Louisville, KY.

I’ll never forget the time Josiah was helping me on a wedding in Chicago and he mentioned this girl he had been talking with, from Louisville, KY. At the time, Josiah was living in Minneapolis and helping me photograph weddings. Amelia was that girl he had been chatting with and she happened to be in Chicago that very same weekend of our wedding. So, as the night wound down, I was like…”You should have her come swing by the wedding.” I mean, at that point they had yet to even see each other face to face. It was the coolest thing to see them sitting at a table, drinks in hand…hanging out as I photographed the dancing and late night happenings at the wedding. Fast forward a couple years and I’m driving down to KY to photograph their wedding. They found a beautiful backdrop for the wedding in the Farmington Historic Plantation in Louisville. With help from friends and family, they transformed the space into a beautiful, intimate experience. The ceremony location was a short walk from the reception, with a lush garden in-between. It was HOT. Then, it poured. It was one of those days where you could feel the atmospheric energy building, knowing it would eventually break. So, they decided to wait out the rain, eventually fitting in a brief ceremony (which included another downpour). Umbrella’s came out. People fled for cover. Josiah and Amelia just stood happily as could be out in the rain. I love this about them. I hope their love for each other proves strong and willing to enjoy life’s downpours. Here’s a small sampling of photo’s from their wedding day. Thanks so much for following along! Your support is humbling and I’m beyond grateful.

Stouts Island Lodge Wedding with Katy & Jon

The forecast was for rain. I was bummed. Stouts Island Lodge is a destination venue where family and friends travel to enjoy a weekend getaway. Guests swim, kayak, fish, soak up the sun, read while looking out over the lake, enjoy nature, and experience a slowing down and enjoying friends that is hard to replicate anywhere else in the midwest. Rain just gets in the way of enjoying the weekend. BUT, as often does...the weather turned. The wedding day was gorgeous and was only outdone by how amazing Katy and Jon looked together. Everyone involved pulled off the perfect wedding. Below are a collection of random moments and portraits caught throughout the day.

Bookings for 2019 are coming in, but I still have plenty of availability and I'd love to hear from yah! After 7 years, I'm amazed photography has turned into a career and one I love more now than when I started. Thanks so much for all your support. Literally, cannot do this without your help.

BWCA Wilderness Trip

At the end of August, I had the privilege of joining a handful of friends on a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. My previous time up was over 9 years ago, so I felt a bit out of place. But, it was nice to kick off the rust and get back into the swing of canoeing, portaging, setting up camp and surviving out in the wilderness. This trip was odd in that the fishing was so good I didn't do much else. I had plans to do a lot of drawing, reading a favorite book on a newly purchased hammock, and just relaxing around a fire with friends. A couple highlights from this trip were a friend, up for the first time, catching a fish of a lifetime and paddling through an area burned down from a previous fire. Freshly off reading through the Hobbit with my kids and all I could think of was the desolation of Smaug. Here are a bunch of photographs from our trip...some on film, some with an iPhone. Our entrance point was #37, Kiwishiwi Lake.
