Ryan & Shelby contacted me last year about wanting a session with another couple. Turns out the other couple was Ryan's brother, Scott and sister-in-law, Stacey. They are moving to TX this Summer, so my time with these four was centered around a few places they love to go together. I also tried something new, and gave these guys a compact film camera and asked that they take photos of each other during our time together. After they finished the roll, I ran the roll through the same camera again, taking my own photos. The roll of film is double exposed. The results were great and I think they had a lot of fun with it. Thanks so much for checking out the blog and following along. Its going to be a busy year, so keep checking back or subscribe so you don't miss anything! If you want me to come hang out with you and yours, contact me soon so I can get you on my calendar!! Thanks everyone.
Minneapolis Film Photographer
Eric + Erica / Minneapolis Engagement Session
Erica gushed about my photography from the very first email I received and every email along the way. This sorta thing does crazy good things in a creatives heart. Honestly, I usually don't get THAT much appreciation and when it does come, its life giving. Her and Eric have been some of the best people to work alongside and I'm so excited for their wedding next year. We had a fun time on this session checking out one of their favorite spots in NE Minneapolis (612 Brew) and exploring a couple great locations near our home in South Minneapolis. I really love the last set of photos after the sun had set. I used to never want to shoot after the sun went down, but lately I've been really loving the colors and mood during that window before all goes black.
Melanie / St. Paul, MN / Film Portrait Session
Here's a collection of photographs made with my friend Melanie. We just chilled and had coffee and great conversation in-between making some rad portraits together. Everything took place in her small, but perfect apartment. I know, for most people, its hard being photographed. Any time I'm in front of someones camera I remind myself that my openness, honesty and trust is whats needed to make great portraits. But, thats hard. It's easier to shut ourselves in. It's easier to let insecurity rule and totally stifle creativity. I'm so thankful for Melanie and everyone who lets me and my camera(s) into their world. It's no small thing. Really. It's somewhat heroic. So, lets create something together.
